Why is Rewilding an essential part of our Healing process?
Rewilding offers us a path of re-connection to our natural environment and to ourselves. These connections are often severed due to the busy production based lifestyles we live. Severing these links leave us out of touch with the reality of who we are, what we truly need to thrive on this planet, how to take care or one another and our planet, and overall dis-empowers us, leaving us vulnerable to the onslaughts of our society.
As we begin our journey of Self Rediscovery by engaging with our natural environment and one another in healthy and sacred ways, we realize that our responsibility and purpose goes beyond mundane expectations. Whether we want to acknowledge it or not, we are part a an infinite, interconnected web of LIFE. |
“Most people are on the world, not in it – have no conscious sympathy or relationship to anything about them – undiffused, separate, and rigidly alone like marbles of polished stone, touching but separate.” John Muir
The 5 approaches of Therapeutic Rewildingsm:
1) Wholistic and Ancestral Nutrition
Re-connecting with our food source and that way earth provides for our bodies and dietary needs. Learn how to supply your body with all the vitamins and minerals you need using a food based approach rather than relying on supplementation. Learn about your genetic makeup and what type of diet is best suited to support optimal health and well-being. There is no 1 diet fits all. This approach allows us to customize a plan just for you to help prevent disease formation and restore health. This is a “Food First” approach to nutrition in which we need to supply the body with whole nutrient rich foods and herbs first and use supplements if needed. In this branch, we also incorporate the use of Herbal Medicine. Herbal remedies have been used for thousands of years. We use herbs to give added support when needed. In this society, it is common for our bodies to get stressed, overworked, depleted and diseased due to being constantly exposed to the assaults of living life in a modern world. Herbal medicine in the form of teas, capsules, tabs, salves or tinctures is used to support and strengthen the body’s mechanisms in order to regain health and vitality.
2) Therapeutic Bodywork and Body Care Rituals
Therapeutic bodywork incorporates a blend of western massage techniques with eastern and tribal methods of working with the body. In this approach, we listen and respond to the body’s needs and support its efforts to regain homeostasis. This work is energetic at its roots as everything is in fact energy in more of less dense form. We work with the energetic movements in the body manifested in the physical form to create an unimpeded flow of energy throughout.
3) Natural Movement and Martial Arts
Natural Movement is The way we connect to the world around us is directly related to our inner health and well being. If we are Disconnected from the natural world our thoughts emotions and behaviors will be disconnected from source, leading to disease and dysfunction in the body. Full body, mind and spirit Integration is vital in creating balance and peace within allowing the same to permeate into the world. The Chinese art of Qi Gong, energy or vital breath movement, and bagua zhang, an internal chinese martial art, both works to break down stagnation in the body while strengthening and realigning physical and energetic elements through stance, breath, self defense techniques and Qi work. Natural Movement helps us reconnect to the way our body was naturally designed to move about the land. Through Natural Movement, we explore the different planes of movement such as crawling, rolling, jumping and crouching, and hence unlock the complexity and diversity of how our bodies can move. Natural Movement helps increase flexibility, agility, endurance, strength, resilience, and stability as we learn to connect with our bodies on a deeper level and develop a more primal and intrinsic relationship with the way we relate to the environment around us.
4) Meditative Nature and Body Awareness
Meditative nature awareness and contemplation will take you deep into your personal connection with the natural environment that exists both outside our yourself and within yourself. You will reflect on your relationship to the elements around you, animals, plants, trees, flowers and the divine consciousness that inhabits all of life. This practice will allow you to tune in with the essence of all creation and find the point of origin, where all life, including our own, began. From this point of stillness stems the collective consciousness that make up our matrix and of which we are an integral part. We will learn ways to operate within this matrix via the spoken and written word and conscious manifestation within the astral realm.
5) Earth skills Integration
Ancestral skills of living with the earth are becoming increasingly forgotten and abandoned due to the advent of modern technology based culture. However, the connection that is established between human and nature when applying earth skills to meet the needs of daily living has been shown to increase rate of healing and regenerative capabilities of body and mind. Earth skills include a wide range of practices such as nature based craft project, wild foraging and medicine making, fire making, shelter building (kids love this one!), natural water purification, reading the sky and animal behavior, self integration in nature through fluid movement and leaving no trace. These skills can be applied to a variety of settings from the country side to the suburbs. We will explore ways earth skills can be integrated in your daily home life and provide an avenue through which you can make daily connections with the natural environment.
